Ethnocentricity
Those of you who have taken classes with me, know how I feel about ethnocentricity and how I despise it. You know the full meaning of this ugly little mother, and I am sure you can define it in your sleep. I have written a lot about this topic on this website, however, for those who are not familiar with this ugly phenomenon, let me repeat: Ethnocentricity is when one culture is perceived to be superior to another.
Something that we, as Americans, are guilty of. Events of the past week, have illustrated this … repeatedly. Our President visited Asia and stopped by in Japan, where he bowed to the Emperor and Empress. OMG, what a horrible sin … at least that is what the rightwing inbreds have been screaming. Y’all know, the obese one who likes his drugs (and of course his own voice) and many more.
For the first time we have a President who has shown respect to another culture, as well as displaying good manners. Our President demonstrated that he is not guilty of ethnocentricity. He was a GUEST in Japan and behaved accordingly. TG for that. For the first time in a very long time, I am proud of my President. However, if the Emperor and Empress should visit us and be guests in our beautiful land, I do not believe that it would be expected from President Obama to bow as the royal couple will be guests in MY country where we do NOT bow.
So, to the rightwing … shame on you. Go and spew your venom and hate somewhere else. And may GOD continue to bless our beautiful country by helping us make sure that we elect people with class and style to higher offices!
